SHOPPING CENTER EMBRUJO ARENA IN MARBELLA

When we presented our proposal to the international competition for the redevelopment of the old Plaza de Toros de Marbella, the program included the conversion of the bullring in a multipurpose building to house all kinds of demonstrations and activities of cultural and sports type, raising design a covered multipurpose building that exploited the original building.

This competition was won by us in 2011, with an initial proposal that solved the program requested in the tender, keeping the building of the bullring, which is changing the face and the sand of the arena was covered, leaving a covered building that would allow holding all kinds of events such as conferences, sporting events, concerts and even bullfights, etc. The program was completed by performing a mall on the land, two buildings five-star hotel one of them, and possible use of offices on the other. The parking would be developed on the surface, with an agreement with the city on an adjoining space, and below ground, drawing level differences observed in the area.

Later in a second version, after agreement with the city of Marbella, Bullring, replacing a building for much larger shopping center was removed, keeping the hotel towers and offices, and putting on the plot a smaller building multiple events and international fairs and conferences, concerts, sports, … but suppressing its use for bullfighting.

In a third version uses the mall and towers remain, but respecting the layout of the bullring, listed in the last General Plan, but not replacing the building, transforming it into a commercial center, it would join other commercial building that extends along the bullring, thus forming a large shopping complex with complementary uses and under the two adjoining towers.

In all versions tremendously dynamic architectural trace very avant-garde solutions related to the uses and character that our client required were raised, avoiding localism and outdated architectures and out of context, that they should lose the potential and image persecuted in the project.

The complex designed will be a milestone in the Marbella city, it materialized in more than 60,000 m2 above ground, of which more than 50,000 m2 will be for commercial use referral; It will also feature more than 1,200 covered parking spaces and nearly 10,000 m2 of hotel and office complementary uses, manifesting as an attractive center of development and revitalization of the famous Marbella town.
